THE Journey

Every great journey begins with a story, and Gig-A-Bites is no exception. Gig-A-Bites of Wilson Walking Tours was created from my passion for the arts, and my love for history of Wilson. I envisioned more than a walking tour. I wanted to create an experience that brings together Wilson's rich history, vibrant culture, local flavors, and the incredible people who call this city home. Every tour is thoughtfully designed to showcase the stories behind our landmarks, celebrate our local businesses, and introduce visitors to the hidden gems that make Wilson truly unforgettable.

Wilson at a Glance

Nestled in the heart of Eastern North Carolina, Wilson is a charming city where history, culture, art, and Southern hospitality come together. Located about 45 miles east of Raleigh, Wilson has grown from a small railroad town into a vibrant destination known for its historic downtown, unique attractions, local cuisine, and welcoming community.

Founded in 1849 and named after Louis Dicken Wilson, the city quickly became a major transportation and agricultural hub following the arrival of the railroad. By the early 1900s, Wilson earned the title "The World's Greatest Bright Leaf Tobacco Market," becoming one of the nation's leading tobacco trading centers. Today, its historic tobacco warehouses have been beautifully restored into restaurants, businesses, and cultural spaces that celebrate the city's rich heritage.

Wilson is also home to some of North Carolina's most iconic attractions, including the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park, the Historic Downtown District, the Imagination Station Science & History Museum, the Wilson Rose Garden, and a variety of locally owned restaurants and shops. The city's vibrant arts scene, public events, and friendly atmosphere make it an enjoyable destination for visitors of all ages.

Whether you're exploring historic landmarks, discovering local flavors, or experiencing its rich cultural heritage, Wilson offers a unique blend of small-town charm and unforgettable experiences.

With Gig-A-Bites, you'll discover Wilson beyond the guidebooks, one story, one bite, and one unforgettable experience at a time.
